GENIUS LOCI

A project aimed to explore the concept
of the genius loci, the spirit of a place and how it can be communicated through design.
We were briefed to choose a location, document and study its unique genius loci. Then, communicate it through two visual outcomes
I select the area of More London as my chosen location. I focus on the futuristic, artificial atmosphere created by the modern architecture, the materiality and
people, who further contribute to the sense of artificiality.

A SHORT FILM

Metallic is a short film which deals with society’s obsession with technology and its narcissistic consequences. It is inspired by More London’s architectural design, of sharp metallic shapes, and its cold artificial atmosphere.
The film features a curious young woman, who is attracted by the artificial surrounding, slowly consumed by her own reflection, losing her humanity and turning into metal herself.

I document different textures, materials and colours as I study the Genius Loci of More London.

EXPERIMENTS

I experiment with different metallic textures and materials, to create abstract imagery inspired by my genius loci.

SECOND OUTCOME
Collage 1.jpg

COLLAGE

The collages are made digitally to emphasis the artificial element of the genius loci. The chosen images are of people and characters who appear to communicate the same cold metallic atmosphere, using human features to build a robotic non-human creation. A section of the collage is left as a mirror, so viewers become part of the collage themselves, to further contrast the concept of human and non-human.
